I’m not going to talk about the Arizona Cardinals today.  Not going to do it. Nope. Too damn pissed to go into why they lost against the abismal Vikings or how I couldn’t even listen to the fourth quarter after a while. Gah.

On to other things, there is soccer (or football for you European types). My youngest son’s team clinched first place in his age group this weekend with a 4-1 win.  Connor has turned into a real powerful defenseman, denying his opponents opportunities to score (he was sitting out when the one point was scored against them) and I am really proud of him. My oldest boy’s team lost again in a heartbreaking 1-6 loss. The boys have no hussle left in them and I haven’t been able to figure out how to motivate them, how to get them to run and be aggressive. We have one more game, and I would love to end it on a high note, but the last couple of games have left me scratching my head. There are some really talented kids on the team who just seem like they’ve become timid, while some of the boys who started out struggling have started to turn the corner. I just wish I knew what to do here.  Zachary has started playing goalie more and he is getting better every week and I am proud of him for it, but he too needs to get a little fire lit beneath him.  I’m not sure what will make that happen.

NaNoWriMo. Yeah, its that time (as I said in an earlier blog), and my thoughts have turned toactually completeing a novel this year (last year I made it a little more than half way). After a comment made by a friend last week I got to thinking and I have an idea for what I may do for my November project. I’ve been thinking about writing something with a high science fiction sort of feel, but now I’m considering using the month to write the second book of Alone. I know the characters and I have a pretty good idea as to what I’ll be doing for the story so most of the bones are in place so I can really just focus on the writing.  The down sides are that I haven’t even finished editing the first book and the first book was over 90,000 words, well beyond what I think I can hit in one month. To be honest the idea of hitting 50k in one month seems nearly impossible to me. The other question posed by my friend was whether or not I’d be posting my writing in my blog or keeping it secret.  I’ve thought about it and I think I will post it here as time allows.  I’m a little excited and nervous about the impending National Novel Writing Month and I look forward to sharing the experience with you. If you are participating and want to friend me on the NaNoWriMo website you can find me as Eric.Swett .

The Editing process is going slow right now because of some issues with perspective. I changed my approach to writing Alone some time after I hit the 25th installment, and now I’m having to fix the early parts due to that change. I’m struggling with the fix and I’m trying to add in some detail to parts I had left unintenionally vague, but I am making some progress.  My editing may come to a halt once November hits and NANoWriMo has my full attention, so I really need to redouble my efforts and get through the first third at least. Wish me luck!

As a new note, I miss gaming. I don’t mean playing computer games or X-box, I mean playing Dungeons and Dragons or Battletech. When I lived in Oregon I played at least every other week and it was the high point of any week really.  I’ve played on game of Battletech since I moved to North Carolina and no Dungeons and Dragons and I miss it.  To be fair I haven’t really had the time and I still don’t.  I give all of my time to my wife and kids, and I’m glad to do it, but I miss sitting around with my friends fior a few hours a week.  Some time in the near future I’m going to have to find away to get back to it, even if only once a month or so.

Anyhow, I guess that’s my update for the week. I’m sure I’ll post more later, but this will do for today.  Take care!
