This entry is part 73 of 80 in the series Reviews
Author
Ask any dedicated author and they will tell you that coming up with the idea for a story is probably the easiest part of the writing process. Sitting down and writing the book is certainly time consuming, while editing and rewriting is probably the hardest part of the process. One thing most of us fail to think about is the selling. How do we market our books? How do we get our name known by the masses?
The Author Mindset, by Falcon Storm, takes a look at what it means to be an author and offers advice on the writing process and the steps to take once the story is set to paper. I listened to the Audio Book version of the book and checked it against an e-copy, but this review will include my input on the audio version as well as the content.

THE GOOD

This is a well thought out and well delivered book that new and struggling authors will find very useful. The content is brief and approaches the topic of being a writer and what that means from the perspective of a jumping off point, but it does not treat the reader like a complete novice. The information is frank and does not try to avoid the more difficult realities of being an author. There is a lot of focus on being a self published author or an author with an Independent Press, but the advice is useable by any author.
Craig Beck’s narration of the book is spot on. His voice is smooth, his diction is excellent, and his sense of timing and emphasis make the audio copy of the book a complete joy t listen to. At a little more than an hour in length, it is a short read, easily taken in during a single afternoon, but it is well worth giving it a listen.

THE BAD

There is nothing bad about the books writing or reading, but I will say that some of the advice in the book can be a little jarring. I am specifically talking about the parts where the cost of suggested services is concerned. I would have liked a little more about how to deal with these needs if budgetary concerns are an issue, but that might well be a topic left best for some future book.

THE TAKEAWAY

If you are a writer, or you plan on becoming a writer, I would definitely recommend picking up this book. It might cost a little more, but I think it is worth the money to pick up the audio as well as the e-book versions. The audio book is a pleasure and easy to absorb, but the e-book has some print extras that might be handy and it makes for a much easier reference guide further down the line.

One of these days I’ll be able to afford a voice like that.
