100-Word Challenge, Day 252

The familiar grating of the door's lock made Evan's heart beat faster until he was sure it would fly out of his chest. He had always taken his freedom for granted. Being born on Terra he had enjoyed political freedom and had a free hand in choosing his education and even his move to the moon. Aldric had exerted a certain tyrannical control over his life, but even that was nothing compared to the weeks of imprisonment he had suffered at the hands of his jailers. To be fair, he was not sure where he would have gone, or if he would have survived the explosion at his last residence, but there was only so much confinement he could stand.

100-Word Challenge, Day 250-251

He had spent every waking moment pushing that little screw around. His ability to manipulate it grew better by the hour, and by the third day he was able to pick the screw up and move it about in the air before his eyes. By the end of the week he could make it fly about the room with a precision that made him smile. He imagined sending the screw through the visor of the armed guard and into the eye of the man within, but as satisfying as that might be, he would still have to deal with the other man, and he only had one screw. CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Phillips-head screw

“It’s time to get up.” The too familiar electronic voice said.

Evan rolled away from the door, stuck his arm up and casually extended his middle finger. By his best guess a week had passed since his failed escape attempt. He still received the same boring meals and the occasional interruption from the intercom, but now there were always two people bringing him his meal, and one of them was always armed.
