2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here's an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,200 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Can I Just Say...

Candia Ridley, singer for Inkubus Sukkubus, si...

Okay, let me start this post by saying I am a bit slap happy today.  My wife has been sick for three days and I've spent a couple of afternoons with doctors and dentists. I'm going through a cycle where I can't seem to sleep at night and during the day I can't stay awake.  The whole thing is starting to get old. This week it has rained just about every day. I love the rain and the cool grey days of fall. They play havoc with our soccer schedule since the county and city won't let us use the fields if they are too wet. Consequently there has been no soccer this week and odds are we won't have games this weekend either. What a change from Oregon. In the entire time I coached there we only had one game even delayed and that was because it was hailing on us. We played through rain and mud and the kids loved it. I think it robs the kids, but I've been a bit grateful this week given everything else I've had going on. Let me just say this: I love the changes to the WordPress App for Android.  They added a feature I've been silently wishing for! They added a "Read" button that gives you a scrollable list of the posts for blogs you follow. As if this were not enough, you can also change it so that you can scroll through posts you "Like" or through various topics. Squee! Expect to see more traffic, Likes and comments from me.  I live a mobile life and my phone is the best link I have between reality and the digital world. On a similar note, all of you people need to stop bitching about Facebook.  Its different. You have to learn how to use it again. Get over it and stop clogging my news feed with bitching. Oh, and if you would be so kind, please hop onto my Author's page and give me a like would you? Click HERE to visit! Recently I was turned on to Yahoo! Radio by my friend Brooke. I checked out various channels and found some favorites. My current favorite is the Goth channel. It's really kind of funny because a bunch of the music they play there I wouldn't really consider Goth, but I enjoy it so who cares right? One of the songs they played the other day was a cover of Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. Now I have always loved the song, but I'm not really a fan of the Stones, so I've quested for cover versions of the song that I like. The one played on the Goth channel was by a band call Inkubus Sukkubus. So I borrowed a copy of their Vampyre Erotica CD and I'm hooked. They describe themselves as Pagan Gothic Rock and they've been at it for more than twenty years.  So they were into the Goth scene back before Vampires Sparkled. I really could use a little break, but there is no rest for the wicked.

Announcing the March Writer's Challenge!

Welcome to the first My Writer's Cramp Writing Challenge!

Since I've started this blog I've met some great people and some great writers and I thought it might be fun to do a little writing challenge to share the works of my friends, introduce all of us to some new people and give us all a little something more to read (like we don't all have more than enough right?). The challenge will be broken into two categories: Short Fiction and Flash Fiction. For purposes of this writing challenge Short Fiction we be defined as being between 1000 and 7500 words; Flash Fiction will be no more than 1000 words. So what is the challenge? The challenge will be incorporating three of nine elements listed below. The more important to the story you make the elements the better, but if you simply mention them in passing that's okay too. Its important to note that its not about using the word specifically but the concept. An example would be if the element was “sword” and you never mention the word, but your story involves a pirate who uses a saber when he boards a merchant ship, that would be a successful use of the element. So here are the elements:
Swashbuckling Mismanaged Psychopathic
Rocketry Bedevilled Agape
Parricide Jive Rakish
Thank you to Creativity Tools Random Word Generator by Watch Out 4 Snakes for the random selection of elements. Continue reading
