Last year I set one real goal/resolution for 2011. I wanted to average 500 words per day in my writing and I’m happy to say I exceeded that. I barely wrote anything I in December and still my average for the year exceeded 600. The 50k word written for NaNaWriMo helped me take a break in December which I desperately needed so that I could bend more of my will against the editing process.
With that in mind I set my first goal for 2012. I will write 100 words per day. This keeps me writing, but allows for more editing and rewriting this year.
For goal number two I will finish editing and rewriting the two novels I finished in 2011. Editing has proven to be hard and time consuming, but I am confident I can do it.
My third goal is to submit at least two short stories for publication this year. I only submitted one last year, so doubling up seems like an appropriate goal.
My next goal is to be better at following through on my commitments. I’m not horrible on this, but I can do better. Really what I need to work on is the the speed with which I follow through. This one will be hard, but I can do it.
Goal the fifth involves me consuming less sugar. I’m starting with no dessert at dinner time. Eventually I will cut all of the sugary snacks out of my diet.
That’s really about it for resolutions. It seems like a reasonable list and I think I can do all four.
On a side note, I will be starting a one month series of karate lessons. I hope I can continue beyond my month, but I don’t think I can afford the expense. My first lesson is this Saturday and I am totally excited. I’ve been wanting to do this since I was a kid. Connor, my youngest son, thinks it is a grand idea because his sensei will get to beat on me. I’ve not really watched his sensei with the adults, but I suspect it may be a while before I get beat up in class.
Another big change in our household is that my wife is starting a side job selling for Thirty-One Gifts. She is excited and nervous all at the same time and I’ll be doing everything I can to support her, so if you are interested then drop her a line here and tell her I sent you (I can always use the brownie points!). Whil I am not a purse or bag man, I can say that some of the stuff Tracy has gotten for herself is pretty useful and she loves them.
Well that is it for now I guess, but I’ll be back in the groove soon enough!
