Apocalypse in the Balance, picks up five years after the events of his previous book, Apocalypse Rising, where we saw the rise of the Angel of Death. In this book, we are introduced to Kohaku Hitarutsu, an underworld kingpin who was ousted from his proverbial throne by someone equally (or more) ruthless, Albert Titan.

Finding himself stripped of all he had, and with no place to go, Kohaku returns to his old neighborhood, the comfort of old surroundings and a trusted friend. It is there that he discovers stuff that nightmares are made of and unlocks the true potential that he has kept hidden all these years, and in the process discovers who he truly is.

If you love good vs evil stories that draw you in, then Apocalypse in the Balance is the book for you.

Apocalypse in the Balance had me hooked from the minute I began reading the book. It pulled me in, and I couldn’t put it down until I reached the end. The author did a fantastic job of building the character of Kohaku. Initially, I didn’t want to like Kohaku, but as the story went on I found myself rooting for the man. This was one of the cases where the bad guy changed, but it was not so drastic and noticeable to seem unreal.

Another thing I enjoyed about the book is the author’s ability to bring in creatures, and stuff from legend, yet still maintain the feel of it happening today. In short, it had just the right amount of fantasy in it.

As a huge fan of good versus evil, and darkness versus light, I found myself invested in both the characters and the storyline. By the time I had finished the book, I found myself left wanting more. Now… I just have to wait for him to finish the next book, and I am impatient to finish the story.
