I’ve been playing video games for forever it seems. I started in the arcades. I had Pong. My first console was an Atari 2600. Needless to say I have been into computer games for a very long time. Most of my time was spent on consoles, but I had computer games that I played as well. Now I am pretty much PC only and I even stream on Twitch from time to time.
So here are the games I play the most:
Mechwarrior Online
For the longest time, this was the only real option for official Battletech Mech action and was my primary stream content on Twitch. It is a bit in flux right now as it has started adding new ‘Mech chassis and plans on a major upgrade. In the meantime, finding matches has proven a bit challenging so it has fallen off my streaming list to an extent.
Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries
Another favorite, the latest in the long history of Mechwarrior games. Mechwarrior 2 was the first game I ever upgraded my computer for. I recently upgraded my computer so that I could finally start streaming this one. I have all of the DLCs and play without mods.
Battletech
Are we sensing a theme yet? This is the turn-based strategy game tied to the same, Mechwarrior Universe. The game is no longer supported by the maker, but there is a thriving Mod community out there. I play with the Battletech Advanced 3062 Mod all the time.
Megamek
Another Battletech related game, Megamek is a free game developed by dedicated members of the community to make a computer playable version of the Battletech Tabletop game. It has come a long way in the last 20 years and I play it all the time. Usually I play against the Bot, but I play with others too.
Baldur’s Gate III
The latest iteration of the Baldur’s Gate series. This one is tied to the Dungeons & Dragons 5E rule set. It is beautiful and fun and a must have for any D&D fan. Fair warning, the game is still in development so you will occasionally have to start over from the beginning, but it is worth it. Oh, and beware of the opening few minutes of the intro…I’ve watched it multiple times and I still get creeped out.
Genshin Impact
I love this game for how beautiful it is. You can explore the open world and marvel at the beauty of it all. It is a Gotcha game, but you can play and get more characters without putting a dime into it.
Surviving Mars
This is a cool simulation game about colonizing Mars. There are a lot of games like this out there, but I love the gritty details in the game and the wealth of affordable DLC you can get for it.
Minecraft
Some people call it a kids game, but I lose myself for hours in this game. I like to explore, but I absolutely suck at it. I build simple automated farms and over sized houses. Getting to play with my kids is one of my favorite things.
