It always amazes me the way that the sermons at our church always seem to be just what I needed. This week’s sermon was about taking control of our lives. Proverbs 25:28 says, “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” This was the foundation of the sermon, and while I can’t begin to do justice to what was said (if you click the link above you can find the sermon to watch or listen to), I’ll do my best to share the gist of it. We all have things we could improve upon in ourselves, and this time of year we all vow to try, but ultimately we fail. Why do we fail? We try to do everything ourselves, so we constantly fall short, but if we ask Jesus into our hearts and listen closely he can help. While God will help if we ask for it, we still have to do a lot of the work ourselves. Part of the message was that we have to avoid procrastination and get started on making the necessary changes in our lives.

So I have started making the changes. I had actually started on Saturday with the addition of Karate to my schedule. It was a lot of fun and I hurt like hell now, but I am totally looking forward to doing it again tonight. Another planned change has been a switch to a whole foods diet starting in February. We joined an online workshop for a three-month starter course and the kick off is February 6th (You can join us here if you’re interested). As part of the process my wife and I have decided to journal the experience with an emphasis on how we feel and what we eat. I’ve decided that I’m going to start mine now, so that I have something to compare it to later. Every evening I will try to post and we’ll see how it goes.

So what changes do you need to make in your life?

Good stuff, Eric. Hope the changes go well. I’ve been making some changes myself, and it’s really tough getting out of the rut. Worth it, though, it seems.

Good luck on your changes as well, Randy!Just push through the tough times and ask for help when you can’t!
