A Surprising Experience

When I sat down to play Kingdoms of Keshanar at Ret-Con in February, I expected another solid indie campaign setting—engaging, creative, but somewhat familiar. What I found, however, was a deeply immersive world that felt refreshingly distinct. Rather than relying on familiar tropes, it crafts an experience that feels both authentic and dynamic, blending cultural inspiration with compelling game design.

A World That Feels Alive

The Egyptian-inspired setting is more than just an aesthetic choice. The developers have built a world that feels lived-in, where the sun-scorched streets and whispering desert winds create a tangible atmosphere. It’s not just about the architecture or mythology—it’s the way these elements influence every aspect of gameplay, making the setting a crucial part of the experience rather than just a backdrop.

A 5E Dungeons & Dragons Campaign Setting

At its core, Kingdoms of Keshanar is a campaign setting designed for 5E Dungeons & Dragons, offering players and Dungeon Masters an entirely fresh world to explore. It seamlessly integrates with the familiar mechanics of 5E while introducing unique elements that make the setting stand out. Whether you’re looking to embark on an epic adventure or craft intricate political intrigue, Keshenar provides a richly detailed canvas.

Unique Races and Classes

One of the standout features of Kingdoms of Keshanar is its diverse array of races and classes. Instead of the usual fantasy staples with minor tweaks, the game introduces entirely original choices that push players into fresh storytelling territory. These options feel both unique and intuitive, encouraging new ways to approach character development and roleplay.

Gameplay That Just Works

The mechanics of Kingdoms of Keshanar feel carefully designed to enhance immersion rather than distract from it. Combat is dynamic, rewarding strategic thinking without bogging down the pace. Roleplaying is rich and nuanced, giving players room to develop deep connections with the world and its inhabitants. Everything feels refined and well-balanced, a testament to thorough playtesting and thoughtful design.

Looking Ahead: The Kickstarter

The most exciting part? This is just the beginning. With a Kickstarter campaign on the horizon, Kingdoms of Keshanar is poised to expand its reach and refine its offerings even further. I, for one, am eager to see what’s next—and fully intend to support this project as it continues to grow. If the demo experience is any indication, this is a game well worth backing.
